"Search goo Dictionary" and "Search Infoseek Dictionary" are AppleScript scripts to search one of goo Dictionaries and Infoseek Japan Dictionaries (English-Japanese, Japanese-English and so on) for selected word in text editor QuoEdit.
Put the script files into Scripts folder for QuoEdit so that you can execute the script from Execute Script command of QuoEdit. (To save properties of the script in that case, you have to select Save Last Script command.)
And if you keep using the scripts, adding the scripts to menu of QuoEdit is recommended so that the properties of the scripts are saved automatically. (You can do that by either QuoEdit's Menu utility or AppleScript program such as my Search menu addition.)
The scripts can be used with QuoEdit application. They are available for both Mac OS version and Mac OS X version.
First of all, the scripts are for Japanese dictionaries so System 7.1 or later plus Japanese script system (installed by such as Japanese Language Kit) is required. In addition, AppleScript must be available on your computer and Internet environment should be set up. (If your OS is earlier than Mac OS 8, you may have to get and install basic Internet softwares and Internet Config. If your OS is earlier than System 7.5, you may have to get and install AppleScript component.)
If your OS is earlier than Mac OS 8.5, the scripts require 'Choose From List' osax installed from GTQ Scripting Library by Gregory T. Quinn.
If your OS is earlier than Mac OS 8, GURLGURL osax may be required to be installed. (At least, an osax of the same functionality is required.)
Note: In the past, using 'goo dictionary site' with Internet Explorer in Mac OS (9 or earlier) had a problem that closing the window caused freezing computer (in my environment). Now, as of April 2008, the problem appears to be resolved. The solution for the prolem is now commented out as (** ... **) in current version of the script.
Please use the scripts on your own responsibility.
If you modify the script(s), just delete my copyright description at the top of the script. (Basically I won't claim copyrights on the scripts.)
I would like to thank Sanseido for the great dictionaries. I would also like to thank NTT Resonant Inc. for the goo site, and Rakuten, Inc. for the Infoseek site.
